Author's notes: Solaren is a secondary / supporting character I created to give more depth and dimension to the two emerging main characters in the second book of The Legend of Ageless Trilogy. What I know and understand about storytelling is conflict. Classic Shakespeare. ☺ Without conflict, a story is but a subtext of facts and moving objects rather than a plot full of complex characters interacting with each other. Solaren starts out as a conflict, but she over time has grown on me as a fully developed person that is neglected. So, here is her moment of an interview, so to speak, on her jilted relation with Little Phoenix.

Solaren speaks privately with her son, Teal, a boy of eleven curious about her life before marriage to his father tying the kingdom of Aze to Falshire and the Great Empire:

Solaren: "Can't say that I love him. Can't say that I hate him. But I will say that I can't forget him."

Teal: "And Father? What about Father? Did you ever love him?"

Solaren: "Oh, I love your father very much." Tears moisten her eyes as the train of thought seep in how she thinks of her husband tenderly. "He is a man who shows me kindness despite how the world sees him as a ruthless warrior king. And I know he loves us very much."

She can see the boy cast in deep thought digesting her words. He has his father's dark hair, brows, eyes, mouth and chin. Everything about him is a sculpted beauty that awaits the day he grows into the hidden man she hopes him to be. Raising him her way has sparked tensions in her family to the point of isolation now. She refuses all contact with the outside world. Occasionally, she receives a letter or two from Warvisn sending her word of his love and well wishes, and of course, ever the care over their son together. The world can judge as they will. She means to protect this boy with all she has at her disposal, much of it came from Warvisn's tireless devotion to keep her free from the grasp of the Dragon and the Unicorn reigning over the Empire.

Her parents, being King and Queen of Falshire, oppose to the dresses she allows her son to wear. His manners are clearly that of a boy, but for the make-up and clothes he has been exposed to. She hopes for him to become a fashion connoisseur and a perfumer. Her life's legacy is all here in this perfumery she has built over the years, what has started as a hobby when she was young.

Teal: "But why can't you forget the man if Father is your true love?"

She smiles sadly, stretching her lips into a frown. "When you are older, you will understand. First love is always like that. Save your heart, keep it very close to your spirit. Don't fall in love, because people arrange it for you. Fall in love on your own terms. And make sure the person is worthy of your heart. Or else it will be thrown away like a piece of trash before ever opening the gift box, before even looking at you as a person first."

Teal: "Is that what happened to you? How can he throw you away like trash? You are Princess of Falshire."

Solaren: "I am just a woman like any other. That title of my birthright means nothing to a Crown Prince who was destined to become the reigning King of Zandria."

Teal begins to well up in the eyes with sympathy. "Mother." He gets off his seat walking across the carpet toward her until he reaches out to be in her arms. "I'm sorry."

With a sigh and sniffle, she holds this beautiful sensitive boy to her dear heart. "Don't be, son. Stay away from political strife. Live out your life in freedom. And never think of revenge."
